Mayweather set to make $8.3 Million for Each Minute against Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather has never been shy from disclosing the wealth that he possesses. Apart from brandishing the army of luxury vehicles, mansions, and private jets, the 40-year-old global superstar also regularly puts up financial figures of his fights.

Mayweather v McGregor is one of the highly anticipated boxing fights of all time. It has already been called as the ‘billion dollar fight’ since it will bring in more than $1 billion in total revenue. Mayweather has now revealed that he stands to make $300 million from the fight.

The 40-year-old comes in with an unbeaten record, which stands at 49-0. He takes on McGregor, who is a rookie in the boxing ring but one of the stars of UFC fights. McGregor has a record of 21-3 and is the present UFC lightweight champion. It is a tough fight to call, but Mayweather is not nicknamed ‘money’ without a reason. He has tried to get one better over the global sports stars who rank high on the earning list. Mayweather boasts that he is about to make $300 million for spending 32 minutes in the ring. He said:

“Am I the highest-paid athlete out there? And just coming back? We not talking about no contract. We not talking about no contract for no four years, or no contract for no five years.

“I can do it in 36 minutes. $300m or better. In 36 minutes.”

It effectively means that Mayweather will be making around of $8.3 million EACH minute he spends in the boxing ring. The huge amount of money does bring a huge amount of pressure to the star, as he is keen on avoiding a major embarrassment and the loss of his unbeaten record. The lack of regular boxing experience means that McGregor is the overwhelming underdog coming into the fight. Bookmakers are only offering a price of around 5/1 for his victory, while Mayweather continues to be the overwhelming favourite at odds of around 1/5. Considering the extremely short odds, a Mayweather victory by knockout appears like a great pick at 4/6.
