Dominick Cruz not ruling out 2015 return

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz could easily be described as one of the best pound for pound athletes in the promotion at the moment – if only his body would take the hammering it required.

Cruz, who has a record of 20-1 in Mixed Martial Arts and unbeaten in three fights in the UFC, is on a streak of eleven wins on the trot, some of them over the biggest names in the sport. Unfortunately, a series of knee injuries and complications in the surgery process has limited him to just one fight since October 2011.

While many expected ring rust to take a huge toll on the Mexican American fighter upon his return to the UFC against Takeya Mizugaki, Cruz went on the rampage and stopped the Japanese in the very first round. He was set to take on TJ Dillashaw for a crack at the UFC Bantamweight Championship but as luck would have it, Dominick Cruz suffered yet another ACL tear which sidelined him for the next few months at least.

However, now Cruz has said that he could return to action sooner than expected, even indicating that a return in 2015 is not completely off the table, which would be quite a miracle.

According to Cruz, a return to the cage by the end of the year is a realistic enough prospect. He added that he is only two months into his rehabilitation process and he needs to wait a bit longer before he can make any firm statement because he is now in the portion where he needs the tendon to transform into an ACL tissue.

Dominick Cruz said he needs just four months of rehab and if things go well during that time, then a 2015 return will happen.
